Effective Steps To Take To Erase Malnutrition Among Children

Sub-Saharan Africa, commonly called Black Africa, is one of the world's most populous places. With over one billion people spread over forty-nine countries, this region is the land of diverse cultures and people of different religious beliefs. In Cameroon alone, roughly two hundred and fifty ethnic groups live with a mix of Muslims, Christians, and adherents of local religions who speak over two hundred languages. However, what sets this region apart is the fast-growing population. Statistics show that between 1950 and 2010, the region's population grew from 186 million to 856 million, 43 percent of whom are people under the age of fourteen. Out of many challenges, poverty is one of the primary challenges faced by this region in current times.

Reason Behind Malnutrition Still Being The World's Most Severe Issue

Each country's government, international government, and various private organizations are working towards erasing the curse of malnutrition from the world. However, there are still 22% of children suffering from malnutrition globally, thus raising the economic costs to 16.5 percent of the country's GDP. These four critical shortcomings hamper the efforts of all the public and private bodies.

  • Most of the resources and interventions are reactive and not proactive. They work with the focus on crisis response instead of preventing the problem from reaching that far.
  • Malnutrition is not easy to detect; an organization only starts working when children start showing chronic malnutrition symptoms and when food shortage starts.
  • Nutrition involvement generally focuses on building household soundness within communities. There is less focus on building stability within national and regional food systems.
  • One of the most common yet unsolved reasons for malnutrition still prevailing in the world is the lack of data with the organization. Lack of data forbids the decision-makers from reaching every malnourished child, and hence many children are deprived of nutritional food and knowledge of their importance.

Steps We Can Take To Erase Malnutrition From Among The Children

Now that we know where the reasons lie for the sustenance of malnutrition in the world, we have five significant steps we can take to help the world get free from the malnutrition of children.

  • Handling and working on removing malnutrition from the world is a lengthy process. Thus, when working on malnutrition, the government needs to work together with the involvement of different ministries like agriculture, nutrition, sanitation, health, and education and a strong leader.
  • We need to work on malnutrition as an ongoing project instead of making it an urgent project at the time of food emergency. Anticipating and preventing the food crisis from occurring is a vital step for reducing and eventually erasing malnutrition from the world. Moreover, continuous work on malnutrition with the proper training of health workers helps in the detection of early signs of malnutrition and thus take precautionary steps in improving the health of the malnourished children.
  • We all know that both government and private organizations work to reduce malnutrition in the world. However, if both bodies work together, then public-private solid partnerships and cooperation with civil society organizations will work more efficiently to deliver governments' nutrition targets.
  • One of the main reasons for malnutrition is the less availability of good quality food in the market. To erase malnutrition from the world, it is essential to work and make good quality food available and accessible for everyone. Along with all its ministries, the government can make policies and encourage people to grow and give their children nutritious and good quality food.
  • One of the major reasons for malnutrition, as we have seen above, that is still prevailing in the world is the lack of data with the organizations. Thus, it is now high time to make use of the emerging technologies, like Artificial Intelligence, and then work together on erasing malnutrition among children.

Conclusion

We all understand the future result of the world if malnutrition still sustains in the community. Thus, every person should take at least small steps to make the world a healthy and better place for children.
